Dear Ray School Families,

We celebrated Staff Appreciation throughout the week. Please join us once more to thank the Ray School teachers and staff.  We would like to thank our staff for creating an environment of enthusiasm for learning, appreciation for growing and room for making mistakes along the way. We are grateful to our staff for igniting curiosity in our students and making learning fun. You make a difference everyday in the lives of students.

We would also like to thank the Ray School community for supporting Staff Appreciation.  Thank you to the PTO and the volunteers who helped coordinate and organize the events.

May the Fourth: 3rd Grade Star Wars Edition
Ray School staff and students donned Star Wars gear to celebrate on May 4th. If you're a Star Wars fan, you'll recall the tense moment when Han Solo was frozen into a block of carbonite.  Ms. Dubois' class used "the force" to save other rebel leaders from "carbonite!"

Using their understanding of liquids, solids, and gases, third grade students sketched diagrams to show how temperature change might have led to Han's frozen state, and later to his defrosting in the next movie.  Then, students applied this knowledge to save Lego figures encased in mysterious frozen "carbonite" (baking soda and water).  Instead of temperature change, our special "force liquid" (vinegar) caused the frozen blocks to transition from solid to both liquid and gas, freeing the captured Star Wars figures. May the force be with you!

Bike/Walk to School Day
On Wednesday, May 10th, we will take part in National Walk/Bike to School Day. Bike riders come to school on their own schedules. It is suggested that any students biking to school have a parent/guardian go with them if this is something the student does not already do alone and on a regular basis. Walkers meet at specific places, and walk to school in a group. We do not have designated adults to walk from each meeting spot so parents/guardians please walk if your schedule allows to help keep the children safe. Here are some pedestrian safety rules to follow:
  • Walk together and share the sidewalk/road by walking no more than two by two
  • Stop at road crossings and cross together as a group so we do not hold up traffic
  • Walk facing traffic when there isn't a sidewalk
  • When using the Multi Use Path along route 10, please walk/ride on the right hand side, pass on the left, and make sure to alert other pedestrians when you are passing them
  • Please use caution on Rip Road as there is no sidewalk!
Here are the meeting locations:

  • Carter St/Brockway St and Lebanon St. @ 7:10am
