Dear Ray School Families,

With the three day weekend and snow day, this week has flown by! For this week's newsletter we are featuring our Spanish program. In kindergarten, first, and second grade, students have been learning vocabulary that is incorporated in their daily routine so they can identify days of the week and describe the weather using simple structures. Along with learning winter weather conditions, students are learning the parts of the body through an activity featuring a snowman. In third and fourth grades, students are continuing to add to the classroom routine of telling the date and weather for today, yesterday, and tomorrow. They are also expressing feelings using common Spanish expressions. In fifth grade, students begin every lesson with simple conversations with their classmates. Students are working on prepositions, prepositional phrases, and adjectives. Be sure to stop by our Spanish department website to learn more!

Learning Buddies: 3D Shapes!
One of our special Ray School traditions is Learning Buddies. Classes pair up and do hands-on explorations or have buddy reading time. A second grade and kindergarten class paired up this week to explore 3D shapes using toothpicks and miniature marshmallows. What a fun activity!

School Board Vacancies
Three (3) School Board seats are open in March, each for a three-year term. Filings take place any time from Wednesday, January 18, until 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 27. Other positions open are District Moderator, Clerk and Treasurer, all one-year terms. Filings for School Board and School District Officers can be done with either the School District Clerk, Robert Grabill, or at the SAU Office, 41 Lebanon Street, Suite 2, Hanover. There is a $1.00 filing fee.

Dismissal Reminder
Students that remain on the play areas after school must have adult supervision. Thank you for helping keep our students safe!

Spirit Days
We encourage students and staff to wear PTO Ray Spirit-wear on Fridays. If your child does not own any Ray School clothing, students can also consider wearing flannel for Flannel Fridays during the month of January. Participation in these low key Spirit Days is optional.

Passport to Winter Fun
Passports were handed out to students this week. If your child chooses to participate, please get the FRONT FLAP back to Ms. Brauch or Mr. Condon by Wednesday January 25th.  For more information about the program, please click the link that will bring you to our Ray School PE website.

Enjoy the weekend!
